Self -School Mid Term Grade
In school grades were a fantastic motivator for me. I just loved seeing A after A after A on my report cards, and kept an open conversation with my professors to be sure I did just that. I saw anything less than an A as failure.
As my grades no longer affect any of my legitimate records, I've dialed things down a bit but I haven't stopped grading myself. For my self-school project to be a success, I need to measure how well I've achieved my goals. Because no one is there to really judge whether my work is good enough, participation will have to do and I've come up with the following rubric to determine how well I'm doing:

Looks pretty good, huh?
Let's look at how well I muster:
First, I get full 25% for reading, and another 25% for the textbook work as I've finished all of it so far. I've also done all of my critiques, so I'm good for another 10% getting me to a solid 60% - which is hardly passing.
So, how did I do on the weightiest bit of the grade? Well, writing needs to be broken down into 2 parts: stories and blog posts. I've got 5/6 blogposts - I was supposed to write one a week. That's not too bad, though. The stories are where I take a steeper hit. I only have 4.25 of the total 6 complete stories I needed. Two are only drafts, and so count for half, and one is only outlined so gets a measly quarter. Aside from those, I have 3 full and complete stories. Add it all up and 9.25/12 for writing is about 77%. 77% of the total 40% for writing is only 23%.
My grade: 83%, or a low B.
Yugh. I can do much better! I can catch this grade up if I complete the other unfinished works before the end of the semester, but it doesn't look so good as it is now.
Still, all is not lost! It's not an A, but it's not the end of the "semester" either. I've got some work to do!
