My Bike and I

Today I want to tell you about my bike, This is she:

I met Blue Bell when I lived in Pittsburgh during the fall of ‘09. I was in a new city on a whim and needed a form of transportation that wasn’t going to cost me two dollars a ride. More on that later.

I found her through an ad on Craigslist. I wasn’t sure it was meant to be until we met in person. I knew she was pretty-but the photos didn’t do her justice. She wasn’t the most expensive or the classiest, but she had real character. We hit it off right away.

Our first trip was to the bike shop where I replaced her tires for the blue walled ones you see above; they were the only tires in the shop that fit her retro build. Serendipity doesn’t begin to describe it.

We spent every day together that fall, inseparable. I rode her everywhere. However, when tragedy struck (more on that later), we were split apart for over a year. She spent that year in a good friend’s basement and I spent it...more on that later.

We were reunited here in Cincinnati a little over a week ago now. Even though we had changed, our relationship was rekindled quickly.

I sanded and repainted small bits of rust and she returned to her former glory. She reminded me what it was like to travel via self-propelled transport and all the good ol’ times came rushing back.

Things will never be exactly the same, but Blue Bell and I ride on. Together.
