Morning Rituals

There is [plenty] of [information] on writing rituals out there on the internet to show you what other writers do to get started each day and keep going. There are also [plenty] of [posts] on what you can do to cultivate similar rituals in pursuit of “flow”.

Some people exercise, some draw, some go out to their local cafe for a good ol’ cup o’ joe. I infodump.

Every morning I wake up the very first thing I do is pick up my rooted nook color (more on that later) and start said infodump. The goal is to get most, if not all, of my internet curiosity out of the way early. This keeps me from the slippery slope of aimlessly cruising the internet in my work space (read: desk).

Laying on my bed, I go through all of the comics I want to read with an app called [Rage Reader]. Then, I flip through Google Reader to read various blogs on writing and bicycles-starring the ones I might link to later. This doesn’t sound like much, but it takes up a over an hour. At this point I’m starving, so I wash last nights dishes while my coffee brews, make breakfast, and watch half an episode of [Hey Arnold!] before getting to work.

On paper this sounds like a lot of just messing around, but after my morning cartoons I feel completely ready to move on. As I lurk the internet for appropriate links and form the basic structure of my blogpost, I’m not distracted by the idea of what other information is out there.

I’ve had my infodump already, I’m sated.

For now.

Does anyone else have any interesting morning rituals? Ones that put them on the path to writing, or, such as in my case, keep them from straying from said path?
